What is a service contract

Do I need a service contract on
my home comfort systems?

Service contracts are offered by most professional Air Conditioning and Heating contractors. There are a variety of types and levels of protection available, each with benefits and limitations.

Properly maintaining your homes systems can add life and efficiency to the most important factor in your home comfort. A system undercharged by as little as 10% can increase utility costs by over 50%. A dirty indoor evaporator can cause poor performance, high energy costs and possibly cause a catastrophic failure in your unit.

Service contracts usually call for system checks once or twice annually. Each time the system charge should be checked, filters checked and replaced if needed, all wires and electrical inspected for safety, oiling of any parts recommended by the manufacturer, check and clean if needed the outdoor condenser coil, inspect burners for excessive rust, check for clean pilot and furnace burn. These steps are the minimum you should expect and a good contractor will do even more. This is a good time for your contractor to look for any potential safety hazards to protect your family from harm.

It is strongly recommended that you consider a service contract, but be sure you have chosen the right contractor for something this important. Please visit our "how to choose a contractor" section for more info.
