how important are filters?
Furnace mounted air cleaners filter the air in your entire home, since they are positioned in the heating and cooling system and can capture particles directly from the airstream. They serve dual functions. The first is to protect your Indoor Coil from clogging with dust, dirt, animal hair and any large airborne particles. The second is to protect you and the rest of your home.
Typically, a home furnace or air handler will only have a 1-inch filter either on the side or bottom of the unit. This filter must be replaced often and should be checked monthly. A good idea is to use your electric bill as your reminder. A clogged filter could result in a higher utility bill and even a major system failure.
A standard 1-inch furnace filter offers only limited capture of airborne particles and pollutants compared to the deep-pleated media filter found in a Honeywell Media Air Cleaner. Deep pleated filters take several square feet of filtration material and fold it over and over to provide several times the surface area of filtration material versus a standard 1-inch filter. The result is highly effective cleaning efficiency against even the smallest particles.
