The new Carrier 27VPA9

This new unit is a noncommunicating variable 5 speed performance line  heat pump with InteliSense technology, 19 seer2.   Sizes range from 2, 3, 4 and 5 ton all the units are 35″ square.  This heat pump will pair great with the FT5 fan coil and the new carrier smart thermostat, all of these are InteliSense capable units. Like all our Carrier and Bryant units, it does use R-454b puron advanced.

The heat pump is a cross between the 2 stage performance and the old 18 seer1 5 stage units with a little 23 seer2 mixed in with it.  What we know so far about the unit is it wires up just like a regular 2 stage unit using Y1 and Y2 for staging, compressor speeds are based on outdoor temperature and demand from Y1 and Y2. Ie., in cooling mode if it is cooler outside and a call for Y1 is given, it will run lower compressor speeds. If it is hotter out and a call for Y1 and Y2 is given it will run higher compressor speeds and the same for heating mode based on outdoor temps and demand.

Open up the service panel and it will look some what familiar with a PCM and a VFD inside. This is where its mixed in with the old 5 speed and a 23 seer2 unit. Again this will wire up like normal 2 stage unit. The unit has 8 DIP switches for setting up testing and trouble shooting the unit. The PCM has a 5X7 matrix display to show fault codes and running info. The fault codes look a lot like the 23 seer2 units with a main  code and a sub code. The unit has thermistors and pressure transducers on board just like it’s big brother Infinity unit for testing and trouble shooting the unit. You will have to log into the portal to see this info.
