We have recently begun teaching our NATE classes online using zoom format. This article will hopefully clear up some of any tech’s fears about online review and testing.
To begin with our NATE classes are advertised in our newsletter and on heatcool.com.
Pick the class you would like to take, whether it is core or heat pumps. Upon registration, you will be sent an acceptance acknowledgement along with core and heat pump study guides.
In a few days, the instructor will send you a welcome letter along with the study guides once again. Please be aware if your company signs you up with the company email, and not your personal email, all correspondence will be sent to that email. Please be aware if you are taking the class so you can receive all correspondence for the class along with all study materials.
The NATE class and exam will be taught via the zoom format. Please get familiar with the zoom format either with your manager or searching at your convenience to simplify the class-on-class day. It is a relatively easy program to navigate once you get the zoom program downloaded.
The instructor will send you a zoom invitation one to two days before the class and exam date. Be looking at your emails and aware of the zoom invitation email.
Please respond back to the instructor you have received the correspondence and can navigate via zoom.
The instructor will log in at 7:30 am on the day of the exam, to take care of glitches, etc. You may log in any time after 7:30 also. The class will begin at 8:00 am. We will break for lunch around 11:00 am and have a couple of breaks during the day. The exam should begin right after lunch. You should be completed in 1 to 2 hours. Remember all times are based on Eastern Standard Time. If you are in Cent ral Standard Time, please log in 1 hour earlier.
The exams are timed. The core exam is given 1 and a half hours. The heat pump exam is 2 and one half hours.
On the day of testing after the review period is over, you will receive an email from [email protected]. This email will contain your individualized password to access your test. Please add this email to your contacts so that it is not lost to spam or company firewalls. You will need to minimize zoom and log in to this website to take the exam. The exam will be recorded by the instructor to minimize someone attempting to help the tech taking the exam. The instructor will ask for the student’s ID before test time. Tech will need to fill out mandatory name, address, and other vital information before beginning the exam.
You will have access to dropdowns of formulas on each exam. You can move forwards or backwards to check and recheck your answers.
Once you have completed, you will need to check “I am completed” and this will grade your exam. You will know immediately your score, whether you pass or fail.
The key is to review the study guides several times before the exam. This, along with your tech experience, should be enough to be successful in passing the NATE exams.
