Updating Your SMAN/Testo Gauges

Some of you might have an older SMAN/Testo digital gauge.  With the new refrigerants coming, you might need to update your SMAN gauges (digital HVAC manifold gauges) for several reasons:

 

  1. Software Updates:
  • Manufacturers release firmware updates that can improve accuracy, fix bugs, add new refrigerants, and improve overall performance. 
  1. New Refrigerant Compatibility:
  • Updates often include support for newly approved refrigerants.  This is crucial to ensure your gauges can measure all the refrigerants you may encounter.
  1. Improved Functionality:
  • Updates can include better features like faster readings, improved Bluetooth connectivity, or enhanced diagnostic tools.
  1. Bug Fixes:
  • Like any electronic device, there may be minor issues or glitches in the original software that need fixing.
  1. Extended Battery Life:
  • Some updates can optimize power usage, improving battery efficiency.

Updating ensures your gauges remain accurate and compatible with the latest industry standards, providing you with the best performance. 

To update a Fieldpiece SMAN gauge, you can follow these steps: 

  1. Download the latest firmware: Go to the Fieldpiece website and navigate to the Support page, then the Software & Firmware Updates page. 
  2. Prepare the SMAN: Turn off the SMAN and disconnect the micro-USB cable. 
  3. Hold down buttons: Press and hold the wireless on/off button, the zero weight button, and the power button until dashes appear in the middle column of the screen. 
  4. Connect the SMAN to a computer: Use a micro-USB cable to connect the SMAN to a computer. The cable must be able to transfer data. 
  5. Start the software: Double-click the downloaded file and follow the instructions. 
  6. **Click **: Send**** After the SMAN is connected to the computer, a window will appear and prompt you to click Send. 
  7. Wait for the update: The update process may take a few minutes. When the process is complete, the screen on the updater will change automatically. 

You can check your SMAN’s current firmware version by turning it off, pressing and holding the blue power button for about six seconds, and looking at the top right corner of the display. 

Here are some steps to update the refrigerants on a Testo digital gauge:

  1. Use the Testo refrigeration app or the Testo Smart Probe app to select the menu refrigerant list
  2. Select or deselect refrigerants from the list
  3. Do not cancel the connection to the manifold while the transmission is in progress
  4. The transmission status will be displayed on the screen
  5. Once the transmission is complete, the selected refrigerant can be chosen in the instrument
