How to Change the Blower Speed on an 820TB Furnace with a HK42FZ112 NFC Board

This article covers how to change the blower speed on furnaces equipped with the new NFC board HK42FZ112. After reading, you will understand the key features of the board and how to adjust the blower speed to meet your performance needs.

This furnace has a control board with a 3-digit LCD display. It boasts push-button navigation to simplify adjusting operation parameters, making diagnostics and service much easier when you are in the field. The control board must have power to use the display and push-button options. It comes pre-programmed by the factory with a Model Program Number, which is specific to each model.  The operation settings are adjusted using the service app.

Follow these steps to access the menu that will allow you to rest your blower speed.

  1. Press the “Menu” button on the control board. The LCD screen will display abbreviated codes. You can toggle through them by pressing the Menu button repeatedly. Below is the list of pre-programmed codes on the 820TB.

2. This is the Menu you will use to adjust the blower speed on any entry-tier furnace. “Flt” will be displayed on the LCD screen the first time you press it.

3. Press the Menu button two more times. Now, the display should show “CL”. This is where you have the option to adjust your parameters for cooling speed.

4. To adjust the blower motor speed, press the “Next Option” button. This will show the speed the motor is set to. To change the speed, press the “Next Option” button again. Keep doing this until you get to the speed at which you want the blower motor to run. Once the fan speed is selected, press the “Next Option” button to confirm. The display will show the confirmed settings. If any further adjustments are needed, press “Next Option” until desired settings are input.

Control Board Replacement

If the control board must be replaced, the new board must be programmed with the correct Model Program Number before the furnace will operate. Do NOT program the control board with a Model Program Number that is different than what is specified on the rating plate.

The control board may be programmed by either of these approved methods:

  1. Use the supported mobile app to flash the model program onto the board using Near Field Communication (NFC). Scan the QR code on page 1 of the 820TB manual for more information and a link to download the mobile app.
  2. Use the correct Super Plug (available from distributor / replacement component) for the control board to copy the correct model program onto the new board. Further details and instructions for these programming methods are provided with the replacement control board.

In conclusion, adjusting the blower speed on the 820TB furnace equipped with the HK42FZ112 control board is a straightforward process thanks to its intuitive LCD display, push-button interface, and NFC-enabled capabilities. By following the outlined steps, technicians can easily access and change the cooling speed settings to meet system requirements or customer preferences. Additionally, understanding the correct procedure for programming a replacement control board ensures proper operation and prevents configuration errors. With the use of the service app or the appropriate Super Plug, the 820TB blower system remains both versatile and service-friendly in the field.
