DIGITAL TOOLS

When an HVAC technician thinks of tools the first thing that will usually come to mind is gauges, meter, hand tools, etc. But is more to that term than physical tools you can feel in your hand. Today I want to review some digital tools that can be used by any service technician who has more than a flip phone in their pocket. Chances are you’re reading this on the very device you use every day to communicate with people, shop online, and use it as a flashlight when you leave the actual light down at the truck.

HVAC Partners:

Your primary resource for all things Carrier, Bryant, Payne, etc. when you don’t have a manual on site or need to look up ratings for a particular unit. This website is so full of information that most people don’t realize how resourceful it really is. Picture it like Google, but for Carrier documentation and resources.

Parts Information Catalog (PIC):

Look up part numbers using unit model and serials numbers. Know the part number but want to see if there’s a supersession or alternative part number? PIC is the place to be. This site replaced EPIC and offers useful information for repairing units.

Service Bench:

Need to look up warranty status, file a warranty, or see what has been filed against a unit’s serial number? Service Bench is that wonderful world of all things warranty. Most people, me included, don’t know even half of what Service Bench can do for a company’s warranty administrator and accounting.

Service Tech App:

The Carrier Service Tech App is available on Android and IOS and requires an HVAC Partners account to gain the most benefits from it. This application when logged into with an HVAC Partners account gives mostly the same capabilities as the previously mentioned websites in a single mobile app. This seems like a bit of a no brainer to have on every Service and Install Technician’s phone and tablet. If you don’t have it, get it. You won’t regret doing so, except maybe realizing how much time was spent and wasted in the past without it.

There are also documents and tools that exist outside of the HVAC Partners-related applications listed above. While Google and ChatGPT are great tools, sometimes, obscure and hard to find information may be lacking. One of the best places to look would be provided by the team at Mingledorff’s. You don’t even have to email or call to find some of that information that we provide.

AND THE BIG REVEAL!

One of the best digital resources you could add to your arsenal of tools is www.heatcool.com. Your one stop website for technical and warranty related guides, articles, obscure and rare documents, training schedules, etc. We tailor the content on the knowledge base to what calls and emails we contend with the most so to maybe help someone through experience. It’s a free site designed and maintained by the HVAC industry’s best Technical Service and Warranty team, Mingledorff’s.

It’s free. No login required. Why are you still here and not bookmarking that page and downloading the Service Tech App right now?

If assistance is needed getting an HVAC Partners account setup, talk to your manager, Mingledorff’s Territory Manager, or at the local Mingledorff’s counter. Having an account for HVAC Partners opens the apps up significantly and you’ll wonder why you didn’t do this before.

With this article you should have some of the best of the heavy hitters for digital tools when dealing with Carrier products. Next month we will cover very basic, yet important information that anyone who is in the HVAC industry should know the basics of how to use it.
Nomenclature, what does that even mean?
