Infinity/Evolution Inverter Units

When it comes to working on the infinity/evolution systems, there are several inverter-driven outdoor units. They all have nicknames, different specification, and different diagnostic methods. For the average technician, it would be extremely difficult to memorize all of this data.

How can you tell them apart?

For starters, they all have a different SEER rating, this make them have different model numbers (3 different HP and 3 different AC). Second, the inverters have different manufactures, so they physically look different. I have collected a picture for the electrical section for each different set of models. I will group them with interesting facts about the models along with their nicknames. I like to tell people: we have three at this time, and as each Ac/Hp increases with seer, the number of components in the electrical section increases.

1. The first in SEER sequence is the HP 18 SEER/ AC 19 SEER. It is nicknamed the
5 STAGE. It is recognized by having an “all in one” inverter, all of the components are tucked very tightly into a single kit.

  • Inverter made by Toshiba
  • Typically, 25%-100% in “5 stages”
  • Rotary compressors
  • Outdoor fan motor is 3 phase
  • Model numbers: 25VNA8/ 24VNA9 & 288BNV/189BNV
  •

2. The second in SEER sequence is the HP 20 SEER/ AC 20.5 SEER. It has two nicknames: Greenspeed/ Extreme & 1st Gen Greenspeed/ 1st Gen Extreme. It is recognized by have the inverter at the top in a black box, with 3 items below it: control board, transformer, and a contactor.

  • Inverter made by Emerson
  • Typically, 40%-100% all variable
  • Scroll compressors
  • Outdoor fan motor is ECM
  • Model numbers: 25VNA0/ 24VNA0 & 280ANV/180CNV

3) The Third in SEER sequence is the HP 24 SEER/ AC 26 SEER. It is nicknamed: Next Gen Greenspeed/ Next Gen Extreme & 2nd Gen Greenspeed/ 2nd Gen Extreme. It is recognized by have the inverter at the top in a white box. Then several more items mounted below: control board, transformer, filter board, reactor(s).

  • Inverter made by Samsung
  • Typically, 25%-100% all variable
  • Rotary compressors on 2/3/4 tons & Scroll compressor on 5 ton
  • Outdoor fan motor is ECM
  • Model numbers: 25VNA4/ 24VNA6 & 284ANV/186CNV
