The EPA 608 is Changing - Part 2

We have already had many questions about the changes in the new EPA 608 10th edition. This article will attempt to answer a few of these questions.

Primarily and most importantly, you will need to discard any old study guides of the past you may have in your possession after December 31, 2026. The 10th edition will be based on new materials. The revision is primarily intended to modernize and improve the exam. Outdated questions were removed, existing questions were revised for clarity, and new questions were added. The update will modernize the exam to reflect the newer technologies and refrigerants that technicians will likely encounter in the field. There are no questions covering the specific rulings and requirements of the AIM Act, there will be general questions on A2L refrigerants and their usage.

The EPA 608 will still be a closed book exam that must be proctored by one of our Mingledorrf’s technical service managers or with whomever you desire to test with. We at Mingledorff’s will make every effort to inform our customers of the changes when we get the opportunity. We will continue to include the new 10th edtion 608 changes in our fall updates.

Some testing organizations will also release updated study materials for the exam. We at Mingledorff’s will make every effort to contact our customers when these materials are ready. The current Section 608 exam can continue to be used until January 1, 2027, at which time exams developed from the previous question bank will no longer be accepted. Technicians that currently hold a 608 certification will not be required to retest or recertify; however, any technician that needs a retest after December 31, 2026, will need to retest under the 10th edition of the 608 exam.
